Home Hair Relaxing: tips and recommendations

Improve your home hair relaxing in 4 steps

Warning: This is for those who have coarse, very curly, textured hair.

Hi guys and gals !!!!!! The year is almost over and I hope you have been enjoying my blog post,  2019 I will have more interesting blogs and new content on my YouTube channel .

So I have posted a blog about affordable hair care products, so I wanted to share some products and tips for the woman of color who either has been doing home relaxing or are thinking of doing it to save some dollars.

Before we start I want to remind you I am not a licensed cosmetologist, but a consumer that has done research and has been relaxing her hair for a while (20 years)

Through the years of relaxing my own hair, I have tested many relaxer kits at the drugstore and have chosen two as my top favorites:

Both of these relaxers are under $10 and are available at drugstore and beauty supply stores. Why do I like these? The Dark and Lovely one has a keratin serum that you apply after you rinse the relaxer but before you shampoo. I apply it mostly on the ends and I have noticed they feel softer and not dry when styling.
The ORS one as you can guess has olive oil which you as to the relaxer mixer which gives and added shine and smoothness  to the hair. I highly recommend these is you also color your hair with permanent hair dyes.
In addition to choosing a good nourishing and hydrating relaxer, between relaxing session its is important to do weekly co-washes which is basically deep conditioning your hair to maintain it healthy. For the co-wash you can buy specific products marketed for co-wash like the Pantene PRO-V Gold series Deep Hydrating Co-Wash or the SheaMoisture Coconut &Hibiscus Co-Wash Conditioner, which I have tried and love.

As for me I currently use these 1 minute hair mask from Garnier as my Co-Wash and it leaves my hair soft, smooth and manageable.
Second tip I learned from a YouTuber is to prep the hair with coconut or shea butter before relaxing, I was a bit skeptical  about doing this because I though it might keep the relaxer from working. So tried it and OMG!! the results were mind blowing before I even put the keratin serum my hair already feel so good and I have noticed that doing this also helps the combing process go smoother. The ends which are always my problem after relaxing my hair now look and feel so healthy.
I highly recommend this Nubian Raw Shea Butter which is all natural and vegan. I take some in my hand and rub it between my palms till it liquefies then apply to the sections of hair tip  to top.
Third tip, is to use a wide tooth comb for the straighting process which for a long time was not doing this right which I always ended up with wavy hair on the top. straight bangs and in the inside barely relaxed.  By watching some YouTubers I realized the most important part of relaxing you hair is to comb every single section well, but always remember not too close to scalp. Its is so crucial in getting good results.
Finally if you do any heat styling always use heat thermal products which I have talked about in my affordable hair blog

Hope this blog has been helpful and if you try any of these products or have some tips please share in the comments below!!!!
